Emma Beola Coleman, daughter of the late Nathaniel and Virgie Moore was born December 19, 1923 in Boydton, Virginia.

Lovingly known as “Sister”

She attended the Virginia Mecklenburg County School System. She excelled and relocated to Newark, New Jersey in 1941. She later settled in Brooklyn and married the late Charlie P. Coleman from that union four children were born: Charles, Sandra, Lachelle and Jacqueline.

She then took a job at Kings County Hospital as a Nurses Aide, while juggling a family she was persistent and driven to continue her education and went on to Nursing School at night where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Devoted and determined she instilled in her children a sense of faith, family and resilience.

In 1958, she became a founding member and a cornerstone of Solid Rock Church of Christ Disciples of Christ under the leadership of Elder George A. Stewart. There she had many positions Secretary, Choir member, Deaconess and Treasurer. All her adult life was spent serving the Lord. She was always eager to learn and even later in life eager to know.

Later served at The Tabernacle of Prayer Queens, New York under the leadership of the late Apostle Johnny Washington. She later retired in the late 1980s where she then relocated to Jamaica, Virginia. Where she attended Center Cross Church of God where Rev. Stephen Livingston is Pastor. The time spent in Virginia was very memorable with all the friends, neighbor and church members that touched her life. When she returned to New York to spend her last days with her daughters, they continued to telephone, send cards and write letters.

All her grandchildren and great-grands called her “Big Ma”. Some of her happiest times were just relaxing on her front porch.

Emma was the mother to Lachelle, Jacqueline and Charles and Sandra (who preceded her in death).

Cherishing her memories are her sister Ollie Parr and brother Fred Moore, also cherishing her memory is sons-in-law Ravanna Kane and Claude Parker and daughter-in-law Patricia Coleman and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Thank you for being part of her life, her memories and her heart.

Lovingly submitted by her family
