Essie Williams, 83, was called home on October 16, 2009 at Long Island College Hospital. Essie, the daughter of the late America Blocker and William Mosley was born on October 6, 1926 in Aikens, South Carolina. Essie was the youngest of one brother Buster Joshua Mosley (preceded her in death).
Essie received her education in the Aikens South Carolina Public School System. Later exploring her passion in sewing at the East New York Sewing School. In 1945, Essie married the late Willie Williams, out of the union four children were born: Willie and Richard Williams (both preceded her in death), Patricia Glenn and Valerie Currence.
Essie worked diligently for 38 years in the garment district laboring to support her family. Essie not only labored in the work force she also labored for the Lord. In August of 1976 Essie joined the Gethsemane Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Anthony Chaneyfield. Essie found her passion working on the Missionary Board and had continued under the leadership of Reverend M. Z. Hamatheite.
During Essie’s youth and up until her transition she enjoyed to knit and sew as often as she could, Essie was known to sew outfits upon the birth of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In spite of Essie’s health issues she tried her best to uphold that tradition that will forever be remembered by her family. Essie also had a love for gardening, she enjoyed planting her own fruits and vegetables, and always maintained a house full of beautiful arrangements.
Essie, also known by some of her grandchildren as “Me Me” and “Grandma”, was the link that bonded many generations, and her presence will truly be missed. Essie knew that being absent from the body means to be present with the Lord.
Essie leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters Patricia Glenn and Valerie Currence, one son-in-law Glen Currence all of Brooklyn, New York; one nephew William Mosley (Christina) of Chesapeake, Virginia, one great nephew William Berry of Brooklyn, New York, twelve grandchildren: Dawn Williams, Meko Barden (Stacey), Richard Williams (Tonyecta), Jamal Williams, Dorian Glenn, Jermaine Williams (preceded her in death), Tamieka Williams, Tyra Andino (Sam), Latoya Currence, Tameek, Shaquera, Shaqueysha, and Charisma Glenn; all of Brooklyn, New York; great grandchildren: Jamal Williams Jr., Dorian Williams, Jahmeek Williams, Kimiye Barden, Devante Spence, Bria Glenn, Jermere Williams, Raniah Williams, Josiah Barden, Jalen Williams, Jeremiah Williams, Ayme Rose, Keyoni Rose, Jai-Kai Currence, Kialie Currence, Tanahi Wells, Grace Andino and Navonna Glenn and one great-great granddaughter Jaylah Williams of Brooklyn, New York, and a host of cousins, friends and church family.
