Blanche Ruth Chapman was born on February 7, 1949 to (the late) Eva B. Chapman and (the late) Odessa Chapman, Sr. Blanche graduated from New Bold High School in 1968. She was a member of the Alum Springs Disciples of Christ Church in Fort Barnwell, North Carolina. She loved going to church and ushering. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ in her life and was baptized.
Blanche moved to Brooklyn, New York with her former husband, Clearance Cannon and their union was blessed with one daughter, Debbie Cannon. She was preceded in death by her beloved companion John L. Wright and they were blessed with a son, John C. Wright. She worked at the Advent Daycare Center for 30+ years until she retired. Blanche enjoyed cooking for her family and others. Blanche had an outgoing personality, always spoke her mind, loved to travel and had a forgiving spirit. Blanche was given the nickname “Fatty” by her son Chris.
In addition to her parents, Blanche was preceded in death by her grandson, John Christopher Wright, Jr. She was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2009 in the comfort of her home.
She leaves to cherish in her memories her devoted children, Debbie Cannon and John Christopher Wright both of Brooklyn, New York, eight sisters: Willie Mae Smith (Leonard) of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Pearlie Peterson (Gupton) of Grifton, North Carolina, Beatrice Chapman of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Ellen Henderson (Marion) of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Christine Chapman of Grifton, North Carolina, Catherine Reid (James) of Walkertown, North Carolina, Vera Chapman of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Diane Joyner (Rickie) of Jacksonville, North Carolina, five brothers: James Chapman of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Johnnie Chapman of Oxnard, California, Odessa Chapman Jr. (Marianne) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Michael Chapman (Colette) of Virginia, Lubby Goodman Jr., of Fort Barnwell, North Carolina, sisters-in-law Nazarine Wiggins of Ehrhardt, South Carolina and Francis Cannon of Brooklyn, New York, four aunts Cecelia Bryant and Ester Raynor both of North Carolina, Alice Moore and Geraldine Grady of New Jersey, one great aunt Ida Brown of Fort Barnwell, North Carolina and extended relatives, Gertrude Guess and family of Brooklyn, New York and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
