Johnnie Mae Caver (Mae-Mae) was born on November 9, 1949 to the late Charlie and Luther Ree Caver, in Autauga County, Alabama. Johnnie Mae was raised in Autauga County, Alabama. On Saturday April 25, 2009, Johnnie was called home by the graceful Father, for whom she answered.
Johnnie joined the Figtree Baptist Church of Jones Alabama, at an early age. Although she did not attend church on a regular basis, she loved the Lord and enjoyed the Bible.
Johnnie graduated from Autauga County Training School in Autaugaville Alabama in 1968. After graduation, Johnnie obtained a job as a babysitter and attended trade school in Montgomery, Alabama for a Keypunch Operator. In 1970 Johnnie moved to Brooklyn, New York where she got a job working for AT&T. She worked for AT&T for 12 years. She later became a Cashier for two well-known supermarkets: Pathmark, where she worked for 12 years and Key Food, where she worked for 8 years. Johnnie Mae, had an unofficial position as care taker to many children, most recently her nephew Derrick and niece Cha-Nia, to which the nick name Mae-Mae, was given to her. Johnnie’s gentleness, calmness and sense of humor were a great asset for the children she cared for and everyone she came in contact with. In her spare time Johnnie loved to sew her own clothes, write love stories, and watch TV.
