OBITUARY
A Time to be Born
Leon “Butch” Lipscomb Jr. was born March 10, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York to Leon Lipscomb Sr., and Sarah Davis.
A Time to Live
Leon used life experiences to capture the ultimate man that he would become. As a young man he excelled in social skills, academics, and sports. All of which continued throughout his life, many of his childhood friends remain friends to this day. His fellowship in Matt Talbott inspired and created so many new long lasting friendships as well.
At a very young age Leon demonstrated an ability to excel in school. After being accepted into Stuyvesant H.S. for gifted children, Leon decided to leave school, returning later to complete his education. When he returned he was determined to make up for lost time and obtained an AAS Degree from New York City Technical College in Construction and Building Design where he reunited with childhood neighbor LaDonna Jackson who also attended the same school.
LaDonna would later become his beloved wife in 1994. He then enrolled at Pratt University to receive a BA in Construction Management while working at the State GSS Offices in Harlem. After receiving his BA he became a Construction Manager with New York City School Construction Authority. Then, Leon became a Construction Manager with Gilbane Construction Co. until he suffered a stroke in 2006, which left him homebound.
Life changed for Leon during these last few years but with the love and support of family, friends and the sports channels he remained optimistic. Unfortunately, on April 21st, Leon suffered another severe stroke from which he did not survive.
A Time to Mourn
Leon leaves in love and to cherish his memory: his wife LaDonna Jackson-Lipscomb, his daughter Azelina Ariel Lipscomb, two stepson’s Joshua Shem White, and Elijah Yosef Aaron White, three Aunt’s Anna Patterson, Thelma Holmes, and Doris Niles, a faithful cousin Noreen Hosier, one Godson Marcus Lenard Evans, childhood friends Bernard Thomas and Milton Evans, the Matt Talbott Fellowship and a host of family and friends. Leon loved, cherished and remained proud and devoted to Azelina, the one child he fathered, to his last day and beyond.
Leon will go to his final resting place next to his beloved mother Sarah Lipscomb who departed this life last year. He was also predeceased by his father, and older sister Delores Jenkins.
